Mareva Injunction
This term has several other names; the most important ones are the following: freezing order, Mareva order and Mareva regime. In a short definition, such an order is given when the court wants to prevent the disposal of assets and it lasts until further order or until the final resolution of the court. In most cases the Mareva injunction is unexpected to the defendant, otherwise he would be able to act quickly and move the relevant assets before the court issues the injunction. In the most cases the order is issued at the pre-trial stage of the hearing, and in some cases it goes hand in hand with an Anton Piller order, which enables the police to search premises and to seize evidence without prior warning of the defendant. In case of both orders it is important to note that the court acts without prior warning, and so the defendant does not have the time to alter any evidence.
